The 4th Annual Miss Altus Outstanding Teen Pageant will be held this Satuday, August 7, at 8 p.m., at the Altus City Auditorium. This year's contestants include Hannah Henry, Allie Ayers, Morgan Gover, Brittany Atterbury, Laramie Petzold, Savannah Phillips, Shyanne Tate, Katelynn Shumaker, Kendra Myers and Mikayla Balderas. The girls will be competing in Interview, Active Wear, On Stage Question, Evening Wear and Talent.

Marisa Maloney (16), Miss Teen Namibia 2010, is leaving today to participate in the Miss Teen World contest in Texas, USA. In the contest 57 countries will be represented and the crowing event will take place in Huston on August 14. This is the first time that Namibia will be represented at the event. Her national costume was created by Janel Marais, who used the whole country for inspiration. The neckpiece represents the mining industry with a special focus on copper. The top is from a Nguni cow and represents the cattle industry and all the cultures in Namibia except for the San. The San are represented through their beadwork used on the skirt, headband and bracelets. The skirt represents all the game in the country and is made from game leather.

MILAN - She was third runner-up to Miss USA in 1996, promoted Erie County through the convention and visitors bureau and appeared with stars such as Reba McEntire and Garth Brooks.

Now she wants to be The Face of Fox Toledo. Milan resident Heather Cook is one of more than 50 individuals competing in the contest. The winner will work at the station for a year by serving as a spokesperson, representing northwest Ohio and their community. Among other things, the Face of Fox Toledo shoots promotions, talks on camera and visits festivals and events.

Many people are renowned for following the foot steps of their elder siblings, more so in the world of entertainment, fashion and beauty. So it was natural for Kathryn Knuttila, who was crowned Miss Minnesota 2010 to join the quest for the crown as well, almost a decade after older sister, Kari Knuttila Heisler bagged the crown in the year 2001. The piano player from McNally Smith College of Music has chosen to ‘Crown the good in her neighborhood’ – the pretty lady’s way of recognizing everyday heroes who contribute to the welfare of their place and people, albeit without the lights and camera. The Miss Minnesota 2010 was also presented with the Tracy Joy McBride Quality of Life Award for her endeavors.

Kathryn was crowned by Miss Minnesota 2009, Brooke Kilgarriff.

The 74th Miss South Carolina 2010 and Miss South Carolina Teen pageant got off to a flying start in front of a full house. The pageant night featured the contestants in the lifestyle and physical fitness competition, known also as the swim suit competition. Lindsay Michele Meyers was the clear winner in this category in her white swim suit. Out of the 41 contestants, 22 year old Desiree Puglia was crowned Miss South Carolina 2010 in front of a packed house. She will represent South California at the Miss America pageant to be held on 15th January 2011 at Las Vegas.

Hailing from Simpsonville, Miss Pendelton, Desiree Puglia was a double preliminary winner at the Talent and the Evening Gown. Along with the crown, Desiree gets a scholarship for $15000. The first runner up was 20 year old Miss Laurens County, Deja Fredrick of Lexington. She is also a double preliminary winner in Life style and Physical Fitness and Evening Gown. The second runners up was 21 year old Lindsay Michele Meyers, Miss Upstate of Greenville. She is also a double preliminary winner in Talent and Lifestyle in Fitness. The other two runners up include 23 year old Miss Darlington, Morgan Smoak and 19 year old Miss Columbia, Courtney Cisson.

This year the Miss Virginia 2010 winner is Catalin Connor Uze. Nicknamed Katie, she was born on 5th February 1988 and hails from Arlington, Virginia, where she has lived her entire life with her family. She stays with her mother Kathy and father Bart along with her elder sister Jessica. She is a student of Washington Lee High School, Arlington, Virginia. As a student of James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Virginia, Catalin majored in Social Work/Family Studies. She has quite a few scholastic achievements to her credit. She has been an Advance Diploma Recipient, National Merit Scholar Semi Finalist, Honor Roll, Student of the Semester and is the current service chair with the Phi Sigma Pi National Honors Fraternity. Her hobbies include Irish dance, photography, crafts, reading and anything related with children.

P.S. Miss Virginia 2009, Caressa Cameron was crowned Miss America 2009…so we might see a repeat.

Nineteen year old Kelsi Crain was crowned as Miss Louisiana 2010 by Katherine Putnam, the previous year’s winner. Miss LA is a Kinesiology and pre physical major from the University of Louisiana, Munroe. She is the recipient of a tution scholarship and is the reigning Miss ULM 2010. Kelsi won the fitness competition and performed the Balle on Pointe to showcase her talent. She was also voted as the Internet People’s Choice winner. She will be representing Louisiana at the Miss America Pageant 2011.

Loren Galler Rabinowitz, a 24 year old graduate from Harvard University was recently crowned as Miss Massachusetts 2010. Hailing from Brookline, Loren wants to go to Medical school and become a pediatrician. She also has an ambition to become a published poet. A trained classical piano player, Loren has quite a few scholastic achievements to her credit. A Magna Cum Laude graduate in English, Harvard University, she is a winner of the David McMCord Prize for “depth of talent in literary arts” and also the winner of the Harvard University Le Baron Briggs Prize for “work as a humanitarian and a poet”. Loren will be representing Massachusetts at the Miss America Pageant in January 2011.

SEDALIA — A central Missouri woman paralyzed after being hit by a drunk driver has been crowned Ms. Wheelchair USA.

Phaedra Marriott-Olsen, of Tipton, was crowned at the Ms. Wheelchair USA event held in Green, Ohio, in late June.

Olsen, who was paralyzed after being hit by a drunk driver in 1996, said she will travel the country attending events to promote individuals with disabilities.

She told The Sedalia Democrat that the best part of the experience was the opportunity to meet the other women and share stories and tips for living in a wheelchair.
